This last section of our walk took us back to the Loire, which we had briefly abandoned. The history of the Plantagenets, the French kings who ruled England for three centuries from 1154, was all around us in this area, especially at Fontevraud and Saumur.
Once back on the main river, we followed it downstream for three more roasting hot days before running out of time.
