Saint-Robert to Aixe-sur-Vienne

The luxury of hotels was behind us now, and we resumed our normal camping life for the four days that it took us to reach the Vienne. The countryside was as green and abundant as before, a garden of plenty with gentle undulations more than hills.

We never saw the village of Paysac, but the two that followed, St-Yrieix and Nexon, were delightful, with the confident self-absorption that we have noticed in many small French towns. We had never heard of either of them until this walk.

The weather was erratic and we were rained on many times, but we preferred it to the glaring heat of previous years. When we reached Aixe-sur-Vienne, we felt that we were ending a chapter of our walk, as the rest of it would be down beside the river.
