Leaving Mehun-sur-Yèvre on the canal, which goes right through the middle of the town, we had little difficulty with navigation and none at all with hills. The countryside was prodigiously fertile but quite flat, and the villages were not far apart, so we did not have to exert ourselves much each day. This greatly helped the invalid to recover her strength.
