Our last three days on the Canal of Burgundy coincided with the tardy arrival of summer. At Venarey we were still huddling inside for dinner and breakfast, but by the time we arrived at Tonnerre we were finally able to enjoy eating outdoors.
Walking along the towpath was as easy and pleasant as ever, but in places the canal was so sinuous that we took short cuts over ridges, which prevented our climbing muscles from wasting away completely.
We found delightful camping grounds to sleep in every night, although at Ancy-le-Franc it was not without difficulty.
